Fourth of July Movies
My favorite movie of all time is a historical fiction romance. OK, so I'm a sucker for romance—and romantic comedies (not to be confused with sexual comedies) are usually my favorites—but this movie, Far and Away, combines romance within the gripping background of immigrants searching for the American Dream. The promise of America is truly patriotic!
Being a product of the 60's, I grew up in an era that was decidedly unpatriotic. Burning the flag was given more air time than saluting it. But I love America and feel incredibly blessed to live here. And I love movies that—while not glossing over problems in our government and culture—recognize The United States of America for the amazing country it is.
To me that includes not only war epics like Patton, but also movies that show great American heroes who have come from nothing and risen to success, like The Pursuit of Happyness. It includes great stories of making dreams come true, like Field of Dreams. America provides the climate that allows us to succeed.
There are so many wonderful, patriotic movies available today. Starting with silent era movies and continuing up to today's thrillers.
Browse through this huge list of great, patriotic movies and choose a few that your family will enjoy during the hot afternoons leading up the 4th of July!
